Gregory A. Wray currently serves as Professor of Biology and Director of
the Center for Evolutionary Genomics at Duke University. He received his
B.S. in Biology from the College of William and Mary in 1981 and earned
his Ph.D. from Duke University Department of Zoology under the supervision
of Dr. David McClay in 1987. He then served as a Postdoctoral Fellow with
Dr. Rudolph Raff at Indiana University Institute of Molecular and Cell
Biology (1987-1990) and later moved to University of Washington Friday
Harbor Laboratories to work under Dr. Richard Strathmann (1990-1992). After
a brief appointment as Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University Department
of Biology, he assumed an Assistant Professorship in the Department of
Ecology and Evolution at State University of New York, Stony Brook (1993-1997),
later being appointed Associate Professor (1997-1999) at the same institution.
He was awarded Young Investigator Award in Molecular Evolution by the Alfred
P. Sloan Foundation in 1995.
Dr. Wray’s research interest lies in evolution of gene networks and developmental mechanisms. He serves on many journal editorial boards, including Evolution and Development (which he co-founded), Development, Genes and Evolution, and The Quarterly Review of Biology.
